Blue-eyed Doll

There is a Blue-eyed Doll that is kept with care even today as one of the treasures of Watauchi Elementary School.

This doll is one of over 12,000 dolls that were given in the early spring of 1927 to show the friendship of American children in the hope of goodwill between the two nations of Japan and America.

A total of 286 "Blue-eyed Dolls" came to Nagano Prefecture. At that time these Western dolls of friendship were rare, and they became popular with the children and were dearly loved.

Even now she watches over the growth of the children at Watauchi Elementary School from inside the display case in the principal's office.
